Significantly, thousands of confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease have been reported worldwide each day and the numbers are still growing rapidly.

The coronavirus is a large family of pathogens. There are many coronaviruses that only infect animals, although some evolve in their animal hosts to infect humans. Most of them may cause mild illnesses like the common cold but a few can cause serious or even fatal infections. The type infections caused by coronaviruses in humans was first recognized in the 1960s. Since then, seven different types of human-infecting coronavirus have been identified, including the novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

It appears to spread from person to person through the inhalation of the respiratory droplets produced by coughing or sneezing of an infected person. Occasionally, it is transmitted to people when touching a surface contaminated by virus-containing droplets, furthermore, some people can extent the infection without showing symptoms.

COVID-19 may expose its signs and symptoms from 2 to 14 days after the contact and can cause cough, fever, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, due to its effects on respiratory functioning. Other symptoms may also include tiredness, aches, sore throat and runny nose. The severity of the sickness can range from very mild to severe. Some people may have no symptoms but many others especially who are older or have existing chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, heart or lung disease, are at higher risk of serious illness. These severe cases can cause several serious illnesses like severe acute respiratory syndrome, pneumonia, kidney failure, and even death.
